The Old Faithful 2023 Grenache 6 Pack

$420.00

McLaren Vale is home to some of the most treasured old vine plantings in the world today, with the earliest known plantings dating back into the 19th century. We affectionately refer to them as “The Old Faithful”. They are a resource we treasure dearly.
The Old Faithful, founded by wine mates in 2005 is an artisan producer of small quantities of wines from older, exceptional vineyards. We look for vineyards that are expressive of McLaren Vale, the vintage and the variety and only release our wines when the wines display these finest characters.
With the Rhone as its inspiration – Shiraz and Grenache grace our portfolio. Made to age gracefully, we believe in and recommend our wines and hope you can enjoy the magic of ‘The Old Faithful’

Product Description

This release Grenache (nicknamed ‘Black Tip’) is blended from an expressive site in alluvial schist soil in McLaren Flat. Vines are around 80 years old.
After hand harvesting from bush vines, the grapes undergo open, small tank ferment slowly with a mix of natural and cultured yeasts and a small proportion of whole bunches. On pressing the wine was transferred to seasoned French oak puncheons for two years to slowly mature for complexity and tertiary regional expression.
Only the best barrels were selected for the final wine with a small amount of Shiraz from the same block was included for structure. Bottled with light filtration, no fining.

Palate: Lovely crisp acidity with dark fruits, fine graphite, dark chocolate tannin and a varietal freshness like cranberry on the finish.
2023 Vintage: Exceptionally wet and cool early season but then a dry finish allowing long hangtime and flavour accumulation. A highly regarded Grenache vintage.
Potential: Whilst cracking as a young wine, medium to long term cellaring is recommended.
