Wine Tasting for our Metro Networking friends.

 In Wine

Recently James Haselgrove presented the Nick Haselgrove range of wines at a Metro Networking Inc Mixer – an opportunity to taste the wines with food provided by James’ wife Lindy

All of the products made and marketed by the company were available to the members of MNI to taste, and at James’ suggestion the wines were tasted in groups by variety and price. For example, Shiraz the mainstay, was represented across all the brands so the wines of Wishing Tree, Clarence Hill, Blackbilly, James Haselgrove and The Old Faithful’s Café Block and Top of the Hill were tasted in that order. A great experience to see how versatile Shiraz can be. From good “commercial” styles through to the premiums of James Haselgrove and The Old Faithful.

Other reds tasted included Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and the McLaren Vale speciality GSM. The Blackbilly Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre.

In the whites Blackbilly’s Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris were presented.

And in similar vein, to the Shiraz tasting, three Chardonnays, Wishing Tree and Clarence Hill in the “fruit” styled wines showed how easy drinking Chardonnay is. And as a comparison the Blackbilly “slightly wooded” Chardonnay showed how a moderate use of oak maturation can enhance the flavour and body characteristics that develop in Chardonnay.

Further to the Mixer Tasting, James’ presented a summary of the Nick Haselgrove Wines story at the weekly MNI Breakfast Meeting last Thursday 19th October. Outlining the story from the formation of James Haselgrove Wines in 1981 right thru’ to the current Nick Haselgrove Wines business.
